Price: 2,490USDCycling North East Vietnam tour 16 days/15 nights is definitely an adventurous tour through North Vietnam. Most roads in Vietnam are paved but the road surface is sometimes pretty rough; this is why we have a choice of mountain bikes with road types or hybrid bikes.
Join us on this great Asian trip and experience vibrant Hanoi, cycle through panoramic landscapes and villages of ethnic tribes. Visit Bac Ha’s colorful sunday market, frequented by Tay, Nung, Dao, Flower H’Mong, Giay and Phu La tribes. Finally cruise beautiful Halong Bay on a luxury junk.
The cycle journey heads north from Hanoi into the remote Northern provinces that extend to the Chinese border. This area covers some of Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain scenery and is populated by the greatest focus of ethnic tribal groups in Asia. The itinerary includes Ba-Be National Park, emerald lakes and waterfalls surrounded by lofty mountains. Heavens Gate pass, Meo Vac valley close to China, Bac Ha Sunday market, Sa-Pa town and market, and, finally, a cruise and overnight stay on a luxury junk on world heritage site of Ha Long Bay. There will be certain time at the start and at the end of the tour to explore Hanoi’s old town of French colonial and to visit Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum.
Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi, airport pick-up and be transferred to your Hotel in downtown Hanoi. Evening is at your leisure. We will meet for dinner. Stay overnight in Hanoi.
Day 2: Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Bac Can – Phu Thong – Ba Be National Park
We leave the Hanoi City in the morning after breakfast for a road transfer of about 200 km. We will travell along National Road 3 via Thai Nguyen and Bac Can province. Enjoy stops along the way for sightseeing and wonderful photos opportunities. Lunch stop in the Vietnamese village of Bac Can. Start cycling in Phu Thong and enjoy a nice ride to Cho Ra and then continue riding along the Nang River to Ba-Be National Park, arriving at the National Park around 4.30 pm. Check-in on arrival. Great chance to explore the wonderful natures surroundings.
Day 3: Ba Be – Dau Dang – Thuong Nong – Bac Me (80 km )
Early breakfast and leave the Hotel around 8am by our bikes. Short ride to the boat pier boarding a motorboat for a morning cruise exploring Ba Be Lake, the large natural lake in the mountainous region of Vietnam, which is dotted by limestone mountains all covered by thick rainforest. Visit of Puong Cave, Dau Dang waterfall and village before reaching Na Hang Reservoir and lunch break at a local restaurant. After lunch we will keep cycling and cycle a 50 km mostly uphill ride to the village of Duong Am in the district of Bac Me. This portion of road sneaks on the high mountain side offering marvelous scenery of the river and whole valley down below. Along the way we will pay a visit to tribal villages of Tay and Zao. At Dong-Am there will be a road transfer of about an hour to Bac Me. Check-in at the Hotel, and explore this charming village that sits on the bank of Gam River
Day 4: Bac Me – Bao Lam – Ly Bon – Niem Son – Meo Vac (105 km)
Today we will enjoy a full day cycling through the beautiful region along the mighty Gam River. After breakfast we will cycle following National Road 34A, which will take the whole morning. The road surface is old tarmac and it runs parallel to the river. We will ride East for 50 km via old Ba-Me and the village of Bao-Lam. We will also have a chance to meet the Nung tribe along the way … This road portion is fairly easy with just some rolling hills. In Ly Bon we will stop for a picnic getting ready for our afternoon ride, a challenging climb leading to Meo Vac on the Chinese border. The road winds its way up for about 55 km. You may cycle as far as you can and the support vehicle will be there to pick you up whenever you want. We will reach Meo-Vac, where our Hotel for the night will be, around 4.30pm.
Day 5: Meo Vac to Dong Van (45 km)
During our cycle today, we will enjoy the most gorgeous mountain views of Vietnam. After breakfast, pay a visit to Meo-Vac market place we will start our cycle up the challenging steep mountain Pass of Ma Pi Leng and after about 27 km we will reach the quaint village of Dong Van, today’s destination. Check-in at the Hotel and either relax for the rest of the day or explore by walking the nearby valley.
Day 6: Dong Van – Sung La – Yen Minh (94 km )
Leave Dong Van on our bikes after breakfast and follow road 4C with destination Xa-Phin’s valley. Visit the Palace of former King Hmong who ruled over the Hmong community controlling opium’s trading until 1945. Continue biking along the same road 21 km to Sung-La valley and then up a fairly steep mountain road to Pho Bang, an ancient trading town; enjoy several stops en-route for sightseeing and photos. Visit Sung Muoi village. Lunch break in Pho Bang. Keep cycling downhill to Yen Minh through Pho Cao mountain pass which offers stunning scenery of Yen Minh valley arriving at Thao Nguyen Hotel afternoon. Check-in and relax …
Day 7: Yen-Minh – Quan Ba – Ha Giang (100 km)
Get ready for a challenging day! We will conquer two high mountain passes: Yen Minh and Quan Ba. We will start riding after breakfast at around 8.30 am climbing Yen Minh pass for 20 km. The steep road with several hairpins offers great views of the valley below. Snack-break at the very top before the pretty long 19 km descent to Can Ty. Lunch break to recharge energies before the second climb: 8 km long Quan-Ba pass all the way to Haven Gate. Visit Nam-Dam village before lunch. The climb is pretty challenging, steep with many sharp bends. After a long descent there will be a Van transfer to Ha Giang. Check-in at the Hotel on arrival.
Day 8: Ha-Giang – Tan Quang – Panhou (98 km )
An easy day on the bike today … leaving Ha-Giang rather early cycling to Ban-Me and around the valley. We will continue cycling on very good tarmac for about 45 km. Transfer over the Su-Shi pass. Pic-nic lunch on top. Continue cycling along a narrow country road to the Panhou ecolodge. Check-in and relax.
Day 9: Panhou – Hoang Su Phi – Xi Man – Bac Ha (110 km )
We will start cycling after breakfast along a road that unfortunately is not paved very well but that has a great view over Chay River. Overnight stay in Bac Ha.
Day 10: Bac Ha’s Sunday Market
Cycling rest day and visit of the Sunday Market.
Day 11: Bac Ha to Sapa (110 km)
In the morning we start cycling in the surrounding area. Overnight stay in Sapa
Day 12: Sapa
Ride to the top of Tram Ton pass, the highest pass in Vietnam. Overnight stay in Sapa
Day 13: Sapa – Lao Cai – Hanoi
At your leisure to explore Sapa before we will start cycling to Lao Cai where we will board the overnight train to Hanoi
Day 14: Halong Bay excursion and stay overnight on cabin
Early transfer from Hanoi to one of the most magnificent scenic environment in the world, Halong Bay. Covering 577 square miles, this vast bay is filled with more than 3.000 limestone “peaks” that jut from the deep blue water as far as the eye can see. We will spend a day and a half, including overnight, on board, exploring this overwhelming seascape from the deck of a traditional Vietnamese boat. Comfortable and intimate, your boat features hand-crafted wooden interiors including a dining room and air-conditioned cabins with private bathroom. There will be plenty time to explore Halong Bay, swim and visit large rock formations and caves. This will be one of your most memorable travel experiences in Asia. Overnight stay on the boat
Day 15: Halong Bay – Hanoi
Awakening by the pleasant sound of lapping bay waters against our wooden boat, we have time for an early morning dip followed by breakfast. Sitting on the upper deck you can relax while taking in the breathtaking beauty of these rocky islands rising from the emerald water of the bay. Later in the day car drive back to Hanoi and check-in at our Hotel. We will have enough time for some last minute sightseeing and shopping in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Overnight
Day 16: Depart Hanoi
We will arrange a transfer to the Hanoi International Airport for your departure flight or your onward in Hanoi.
